Spreading some festive cheer

Staff from Life Roseacres Hospital visited El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety to celebrate the festive season.

In August, Life Roseacres Hospital pledged to support El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety in any way they can.

The pledge was made as part of the hospital’s Sizanani project.

“Each Life hospital has a Sizanani project, which they are dedicated to for three years.

“We, at Roseacres, have a passion for children, previously choosing to support Laerskool Die President, and so decided that El-Shammah was a great fit for us,” explained Karen Landsberg, the hospital’s marketing coordinator.

As part of the project staff from the hospital visited the home, in Primrose, on Friday for a special Christmas party.

Porcia Phiri, a member of Life Roseacres Hospital’s Sizanani project team, spends some quality time with one of the babies at El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety on Friday.

“Today is a bit of an informal visit,” said Karen.

“We wanted to celebrate the festive season with the children in the home by hosting a little Christmas party.

“We also wanted to bring some of our Sizanani project team members to interact with the children and learn more about the home and just bless the children with some special gifts and treats.”

One of these gifts was a fiddle board, which is a fun hands-on activity board for babies and toddlers to help them touch, explore and learn about different objects all in one place.

These boards have lots of developmental benefits.

“When we asked the home if there was anything they needed, they expressed their need for a fiddle board which we gladly made,” explained Karen.

Karen Landsberg, the hospital’s marketing coordinator, Sandra Pittich, Innocent Mabena (who later dressed up as Father Christmas) and Renè Haywood, show off the fiddle board which Life Roseacres Hospital’s Sizanani project team made and donated to El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety on Friday.

The day included a braai which allowed the home’s staff to also get involved in the festivities.

“A big thank you goes to the Sizanani project team for making the effort to come and spend time with our children and giving them a special day,” said Merencia Scholtz, who manages the home with her husband, Allistair.
