Donate groceries to help the elderly

Help the GCN and Rest-a-While donate grocery hampers to senior citizens this festive season.

It’s almost time for the festive season and everyone is getting ready to relax and enjoy themselves.

However, there are many elderly people in the community who need your help to make the season a festive one.

Some elderly residents do not have the means to sustain themselves over this period or give themselves a bit of a treat.

In order to make the lives of senior citizens easier over the festive season, the GCN has teamed up with Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Elderly to help bring some Christmas cheer to elderly members of the centre.

The aim is to collect enough groceries to make up 200 hampers for senior citizens.

There must be enough food to last each of them for the 15 days Rest-a-While is closed over the festive season.

Everyday necessities are needed to fill the hampers.

The GCN and Rest-a-While are appealing to the community to help feed an elderly resident this festive season.

Donations of non-perishable foods including tinned food, cereal, porridge, sugar, tea, coffee, instant noodles, pasta and sauce, tinned fruit, jam, biscuits and sweets for a treat; toiletries (toothpaste, soap, shampoo, hand cream, deodorant, tissues and toilet paper) and cleaning materials (dishwashing liquid, Handy Andy, soap powder etc) are needed.

Any donations will be appreciated.

They can be dropped off at the GCN’s offices situated at 25 Main Road, Fishers’ Hill or at Rest-a-While situated on the corner of Shamrock Road and Churchill Avenue in Primrose.

For more information contact the GCN on 011 822 1792 or Trudy Carreira, the manager of Rest-a-While on 082 366 4010.
