Help local store bring smiles to children’s faces this Christmas

Pick n Pay Lambton, Pick n Pay Hazel Park and the GCN are appealing to the community to buy a gift for a vulnerable child this Christmas.

Christmas carols can be heard, beautiful decorations are already adorning the shops and people are starting to count down to the festive season.

Children throughout the country will be eagerly awaiting Christmas Day to open gifts and share in the joy of the season.

However, for some vulnerable children in Germiston this may not be a reality.

This is where Jacques van Wyk, the owner of Pick n Pay Lambton and Pick n Pay Hazel Park, and the community of Germiston come in.

The GCN has partnered with Jacques to make Christmas extra special for 103 vulnerable children.

At Pick n Pay Lambton, Jacques has set up a beautiful Christmas tree which features the names of 69 children from Epworth Children’s Village.

So far four names have been picked from the tree and those children will have a gift this Christmas.

At Pick n Pay Hazel Park a special Christmas tree featuring the names of 34 children from Siyabonga Children’s Home is shining brightly.

So far one name has been chosen from the tree and the gift is wrapped and waiting.

Help the elderly this festive season

Community members are urged to get involved and help bring a smile to a child’s face this festive season.

It is so easy to help a child this festive season.

All you need to do is choose a name from one or both of the trees, purchase an age-appropriate gift for your chosen child, and bring it to the information kiosk at the stores.

Here the staff will wrap the gift and they will be handed out at a special Christmas party that Jacques will hold for each home.

At Epworth the children range in age from three to 21 years old and at Siyabonga they range in age from two to 20 years old.

The project will run until December 2 so make sure you choose your name quickly to avoid missing out on the opportunity of making a difference in the life of a child.

For more information about the project contact Pelokazi Matshaza from Pick n Pay Lambton on 071 745 9035 or Sammi Kerry from Pick n Pay Hazel Park on 081 436 6157.
