#WARNING – Severe thunderstorms, damaging winds could be expected today

South African Weather Service warns that severe thunderstorms are predicted for this afternoon and evening in parts of Johannesburg.

After a couple of  scorching days in Germiston the South African Weather Service has warned residents to be on alert as severe thunderstorms and heavy rain could hit the province between 2pm and 11pm.

The service has predicted that the wet weather will last the rest of the week and into the weekend, with temperatures staying in the mid-20s to low-30s.

  • Severe Thunderstorms:
Severe thunderstorms with the possibility of large hail and damaging winds and reduced visibility expected in some areas of Gauteng, with special focus on the eastern and northern parts of Tshwane.

Motorists are reminded to take the necessary precautions when travelling in wet weather.

They are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distance and headlights should be kept on at all times to increase visibility.

Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
