You can pay your municipal bill while buying your groceries

A number of retail stores now offer customers facilities to pay their municipal accounts while shopping.

Don’t let outstanding municipal bills be a distraction to the enjoyment of your festive retreat.

The metro’s online payment service, Siyakhokha Siyathuthuka, is now available at retail stores.

Residents can conveniently pay their municipal services account at the till when they do their grocery shopping.

“For the convenience of our customers, municipal accounts can be paid at major retailers such as Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, SPAR, Pep, Ackermans, Boxer, Makro and Builders Warehouse,” said the MMC for Finance and Economic Development, Clr Doctor Xhakaza.

The retail services complement the already existing convenient online e-Siyakhokha payment system that enables customers to view and pay their accounts online by registering on www.e-siyakhokha.co.za.

In addition, payments can be made at any of the Siyakhokha kiosks available at selected licensing offices, and at Lakeside Mall, Alberton City, OR Tambo International Airport, the Post Office and selected filling stations and spaza shops.

The metro encourages all ratepayers to ensure their municipal accounts are up to date to avoid disconnection of services.

Credit control measures are done throughout the year and payment arrangements can be made at local customer care centres for accounts in arrears.

Pensioners and unemployed residents are encouraged to register on the metro’s Indigent Management Database, and more details on this programme are available at the metro’s customer care centres.
