Theft of and out of motor vehicles still a challenge for Primrose police

Primrose police offer safety tips for parking your vehicle as theft of and out of motor vehicles remains a problem in their precinct.

Valuables left in parked vehicles and vehicles parked on pavements remain a concern for the Primrose police.

“We are once again appealing to members of the community to be careful where they park their vehicles and what is left visible when the vehicle is parked,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“Do not leave valuable items visible in your vehicle, as they can draw the attention of criminals and encourage them to break into your vehicle and steal from it.

“Items like laptops, cellphones and tools should be stored in the vehicle’s boot if they cannot be removed.”

To address this ongoing problem, officers from the Primrose Police Station and members of the Primrose Crime Prevention Youth Desk took to the streets of Wychwood, last Wednesday, to educate the community.

The team distributed safety tip pamphlets during the campaign and discouraged residents from parking their vehicles around the shops and businesses for extended periods of time or on the pavements outside their homes, especially overnight.

“You are inviting the criminals to target your vehicle when you park it on the pavement,” said Maome.

Residents are urged to report any suspicious activities in the area to the Primrose Police Station on 011 842 0522 or 071 675 6864/5/6/7/8/9.
