Glow your way into the festive season with Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston and LamDel RA

Get into the spirit of Christmas with carols and community fun.

Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston will be holding its annual Carols by Glowstick event on December 1.

The gates open at 4.30pm with the main event taking place at 7pm.

“This year we have teamed up with LamDel Residents Association (RA) and we will be co-hosting with them.

“It is such a privilege to be able to make this a community event,” said Retha du Toit, the principal of Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston.

The LamDel RA operates in Delville, Denlee, Parkhill Gardens, Lambton, Hazeldene, Hazel Park, Webber and Germiston Lake.

“We are so excited to play a role in the Carols by Glowstick event this year and to bring something local to our residents.

“We are happy to be part of the fund-raising activities,” said Lornette Joseph, chairperson of LamDel RA.

The local CPF patrollers have also come on board to assist on the day.

Tickets will be on sale for R10 per adult and R5 per child under 12, which includes a glowstick.

The parking entrance at the school is in Sinclair Road, in Lambton. People will be ushered into the event from the parking to the quad entrance where they will pay for their tickets and receive their glowsticks.

Stalls will be offering a range of food and cold drinks, however, you can also bring in your picnic baskets, blankets and chairs.

Please note that no alcohol will be allowed onto the premises, nor will any be on sale.

The stalls will be open from 4.30pm and the carol service will take place at 7pm.

A safe area dedicated to children will be available, with face painting and a jumping castle.

“This year we have a variety of different food stalls, as well as stalls selling popcorn, milkshakes, cupcakes and local arts and crafts.

“The school will be selling cold drinks, water, chips and sweets as part of their fund-raising activities,” said Lornette.

“We are doing things slightly differently this year.

“We have local churches and charity organisations who will be selling the food, and a number of the local ministers taking part in the carol service with some church and school choirs also taking part.

“We still have a number of stalls available to anyone who is interested; unfortunately all food stalls have been taken.”

If you would like to book a stall email info@carolsbyglowstick.co.za or visit the website www.carolsbyglowstick.co.za and download the form.

“There is no cost for the stalls this year, however, we ask for a 10 per cent donation from your takings on the day,” said Retha.

“These funds will be used to assist some families in need at the school, as well as assist the school in its fund-raising activities.”

For more information contact Linda Oelofse, at the school, on 011 827 2524 or call or WhatsApp Lornette on 083 847 4510.

“In our busy lives, we sometimes fail to remember the reason for the season.

“We rush around forgetting to spend time with our loved ones.

“This is your opportunity to take the time to relax and share in the spirit of the community,” said Lornette.

“Support local and maybe get in some early Christmas shopping.

“Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston and LamDel RA can’t wait to welcome everyone on December 1.”
