Community filled Family Fun Walk and Market Day

A number of local sponsors chipped in to ensure the success of Rest-A-While’s Family Fun Walk and Market Day.

Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Aged rounded-up their activities for October on a cheerful note when they hosted a successful Family Fun Walk and Market Day last Saturday.

Community members hailing from different parts of the city convened at the centre at 8am to take part in the 2.5km fun walk, all for a good cause.

Book stalls, sugary treats, fashion and a pop-up nursery were among an array of stalls available on the day to the delight of visitors.

The centre, which relies heavily on donations and sponsorships, secured a number of sponsorships to ensure the success of the event.

Trudy Carreira, the centre’s manager, thanked Fishers’ Hill Printing, Ackermans Pharmacy, Mpact, FNB, Cherrywood Estates, Discovery, Mamba Security, Pick n Pay Primrose, SPAR Bedfordview, Kingsley Beverages South Africa, Leon Peltzer and Fred’s Auto Body for their respective donations.

Siblings Kyle and Kayla Strombeck were self-appointed walk officials handing out medals to the 2.5km fun walk participants last Saturday at Rest-a-While’s Family Fun Walk and Market Day.

“Everyone who participated in the walk received a medal, a bottle of water and the EMPD ensured the safety of our walkers on the roads. This was all made possible by every sponsorship we received and the success of the market was due to all our supportive community members,” said Carreira.

Jerry Malambela manned a crazy book sale stall last Saturday at Rest-a-While’s Family Fun Walk and Market Day.

Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan and her DA party members also had a unique stall at the fund-raiser, urging people to remember to check their voting registration details and re-register had they recently moved, ahead of the general elections next year.

All funds will be used to maintain the centre.
