Good food and fun at October Fest

Three lucky pageant contestants won photoshoots to the value of R1 000 at a recent October Festival.

The clear blue skies allowed Elsburg Earth Angels’ October Festival to go off without a drop of rain last Saturday.

Water balloons landed comfortably on a few people’s backs and heads, cooling them as they walked around from stall to stall.

The fund-raising event for the community was held at Hoërskool Elsburg.

Zenobia Venter was the lucky winner of the raffle competition, winning herself a hamper filled with tasty treats and drinks.

Shakina Syed was crowned queen in the one to six-year-old category, Raquel van der Walt grabbed the title in the seven to 10-year-old category and in the 11 to 18-year-old category, Rosie de Buys took the crown.

The winners all won photoshoots to the value of R1 000 while the first runner-up received a photoshoot worth R500 and there was a R250 photoshoot for the second runner-up.

Twelve-year-old Kesha Gavril, from Penny’s Vocal Training, also matched the days delights with cheery songs and knocked-out cover songs requested by festival attendees.

Hacky Louw, Linda Oosthuizen and Jerry Lewis were among the singers booked on the day too.

Annetjie Blignaut, a community worker from Elsburg Earth Angels, thanked the organisers for their efforts in making the day a success, although they did not reach the number of guests expected.

“Thank you to Hannes Nieuwoudt, principal of Hoërskool Elsburg, for permitting us the use of their school grounds,” said Annetjie.

NOTE: The Germiston City News was led to believe that it was Elssies Hope, Love and Daycare Centre who had organised the October Festival, however, this was a case of miscommunication, and the article has been rectified with the correct organisers being mentioned. The GCN apologises for any inconvenience caused.
