Bandit nabbed in Wadeville

A group of men were chased in Wadeville after their alleged criminal intentions were identified, one was apprehended.

A security officer doing routine patrols on Dekema and Black Reef roads in Wadeville recently witnessed a crime which successfully led to the arrest of one of the perpetrators involved.

“The officer alleged to have seen a group of men outside a company breaking apart the palisade fence with the intention to steal the parts,” said Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.

The witness alleged the men, amounting to about 25 of them, were using a white bakkie parked next to where they were hard at work.

“The security officer acted swiftly and called for backup to apprehend the suspects.

“Upon the arrival of backup, the suspects were chased and the security officers managed to catch one of the trespassers,” said Phooko.

Iron rods, steel palisade bars and a pickaxe were found on the scene and confiscated by the Elsburg SAPS.

The palisades have since been given back to the lawful owner of the company.

The suspect, aged 29, was detained in Elsburg custody, pending his appearance at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
