Elsburg SAPS nab one linked to common assault and robbery

Choosing not to participate in a company strike proved to have dreadful consequences such as assault for one Wadeville worker.

While parking his vehicle on his work premises, in Lantern Road, Wadeville, at 6pm on Monday, a 31-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by four men.

“The men, driving in a silver VW Jetta, parked behind the victim and asked why he was readying himself to report for duty while other workers were on strike,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.

“The victim alleged that he ignored the suspects, who then climbed out of their car and assaulted him.

“He further alleged that the suspects forcefully took the zinc in the yard and drove off,” said Phooko.

Members of the Elsburg SAPS took to the streets of Germiston in search of the suspects early last Tuesday morning.

Following a short trace, the police officers apprehended one suspect, aged 29, fitting the description of suspects provided.

The suspect appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday facing charges of common assault and common robbery.
