“The father was arrested and charged with assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm after he allegedly assaulted his son,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

The incident was reported to the police by the child’s teacher.

“The teacher noticed that the child was struggling to walk.

“He asked the child what had happened and was told that he had been assaulted by his father. He then showed his teacher the bruises,” said Maome.

“The teacher immediately called the police.”

The accused appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed for plea and trial.

“Remember children are still developing and need to be corrected and disciplined in the right way.

“If you have difficulties there are trained specialists whom you can seek help from instead of taking the law into your own hands and then saying you are disciplining your children,” said Maome.
