The DA, in Ekurhuleni, welcomes the speaker of council Ald Patricia Kumalo’s decision to debate the DA’s Motion of No Confidence in Ekurhuleni’s executive mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina.
“Set to take place at an extra-ordinary council meeting on October 25, this debate will allow us the opportunity to highlight the mayor’s failures not only in governance but to the residents of Ekurhuleni,” said Clr Phillip de Lange, DA leader in Ekurhuleni.
Having lost the trust of the people and council, it is time for Masina to be removed from his post.
“The ongoing protests throughout Ekurhuleni show the increasing frustration in Masina’s leadership and the communities are voicing their anger.”
At the recent council meeting, the EMPD were called in to disperse protestors.

“These protestors are not alone.
“In fact, different groups of protestors have become a common sight outside the Germiston Civic Centre raising their frustrations and hoping for change,” de Lange said.
“We respect peoples’ right to protest and understand the growing frustration in a failing government.”
De Lange added that the battle for access to real, long-term jobs, services and housing continues.
“But sadly, Masina continues to use the metro’s resources for personal gain and cadre deployment and we say enough is enough.
“As the DA, we have a comprehensive dossier highlighting the executive mayor’s failures and welcome the speaker’s approval to debate the Motion of No Confidence,” said de Lange.
“We are confident that the councillors of Ekurhuleni, who are elected to serve the people, will vote with their conscience and put the residents first.
“Ekurhuleni is ready for the kind of change that builds one ‘City for All’, through the accelerated delivery of service, police that keeps communities safe and fair access to long-term jobs.”
