Buhle Park resident found in possession of unlicensed firearm

An unlicensed firearm and a pellet gun were seized during the arrest of a 26-year-old man in Buhle Park.

A 26-year-old man was arrested in Buhle Park last Wednesday and is set to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The arrest came after the Ekurhuleni West Cluster SAPS received an anonymous top-off relating to a resident being in possession of a firearm in a residential area.

The officers rushed to the said address and found a man inside the house.

“They searched the premises and spotted a shoebox underneath one of the wardrobes, as well as a black bulletproof vest.

“The curious officers opened the shoebox in which they allegedly found a revolver with 10 rounds of live ammunition, a 4.5mm pellet gun and four rubber bullets,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.

After failing to produce a firearm licence when asked to do so, the suspect was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and his firearms were confiscated.
