Speedsters nabbed on Ekurhuleni’s highways over long weekend

EMPD officers tackled speeding motorists over the long weekend.

EMPD officers were out in full force over the long weekend patrolling Ekurhuleni’s highways.

In the Germiston area, officers were out on the N3 highway southbound, near the Rand Airport off-ramp, between 5am and 10am, last Sunday.

Two motorists were nabbed when caught doing speeds in excess of the 120km/h speed limit.

At 6.40am, a 31-year-old male driver behind the wheel of a white MG sedan was clocked at 182km/h.

He said he was rushing home.

The second speedster was nabbed doing 171km/h at 9am.

The 27-year-old male driver, who was driving a white Audi A1, also claimed that he was rushing home.

In the Boksburg area, last Monday, between 6am and 10am, EMPD officers were on the R21 highway south between the Griffiths Road on-ramp and the N12 turn-off.

Four drivers were apprehended for exceeding the 100km/h speed limit.

At 6.56am, a 35-year-old man, driving a silver VW Polo, who claimed he was rushing home, was caught doing 160km/h.

The other three speedsters were stopped driving between 141km/h and 156km/h.

All six speedsters were detained at the Germiston and Boksburg police stations, respectively, on charges of reckless and negligent driving.

They are expected to appear in the Germiston and Boksburg Magistrate’s Courts soon.
