Truck smashes into men pushing vehicle killing two on N3 highway

Accident leaves two men dead, one unharmed.

Two men were killed instantly on the N3 north highway last Monday after a truck hit them from behind.

The accident happened after the light motor vehicle the two men, and a third occupant, were travelling in experienced a mechanical breakdown about half a kilometre from the Barry Marais Road off-ramp.

While pushing the vehicle in the dark, a truck came from behind them and crashed into them and their vehicle.

The two were killed instantly while the third was unharmed.

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue teams from Vosloorus, received the call at 10.23pm and promptly responded to the scene.

“Upon arrival, two lifeless male patients were found lying next to the road with the badly wrecked car pushed a couple of metres away from the point of impact,” said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS.

“The two men were unfortunately declared dead by local paramedics on the scene while the third escaped unharmed.”

It is alleged that the men were on their way to Palm Ridge from KwaZulu-Natal and all three were pushing the vehicle when the truck crashed into them.

The occupants of the truck suffered no injuries.

An inquest docket has been opened by the EMPD.

The N3 north highway in the vicinity of the accident had to be closed for the duration of the operations on the scene.
