Mobile clinic services provided in informal settlements

The metro is rolling out healthcare services to its informal settlements.

In addition to its 95 primary healthcare facilities, an additional 14 mobile clinics that travel the length and breadth of informal settlements to provide much-needed care to residents, can be boasted about by the metro.

The mobile clinics visit identified informal settlements across Ekurhuleni and operate between 9am and 3pm.

Each clinic has a dedicated team consisting of two nurses and a driver and they work tirelessly to nurse the community that is not within a three to five-kilometre radius of an established clinic.

The services rendered include, but are not limited to:

• Minor acute ailments.

• Child healthcare: growth and development monitoring.

• Expanded programme of immunisation (EPI).

• Integrated management of childhood illnesses (IMCI).

• Fertility planning services (FPS).

• Cervical cancer (pap-smear) screening.

• HIV testing services.

• Provision of nutritional supplements.

• Other health screening services, such as blood pressure (BP), blood glucose (BG), weight and cholesterol screening.
