Learners benefit from educational prison tour

Learners from two Primrose schools benefit from educational prison tour.

Educating and guiding the youth of the community is a priority for the Primrose police.

Officers from the Primrose police and Matete Mmola, a representative from the Department of Community Safety, recently took 30 learners from Primrose High School and Dawnview High School on an educational prison tour of the Nigel Correctional Services.

“Each school identified 30 learners with behavioural challenges who they believed would benefit from this tour,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“During the tour learners visited all the departments and were addressed by several inmates, who spoke to them about the challenges of being in prison.”

One inmate encouraged the learners to stay away from criminal activities and listen to the advice of their parents and teachers.

The learners were given the opportunity to ask various questions during the tour.

“We hope our learners will stay away from criminal activities and they will spread the message to those who did not get the chance to take part in this tour,” said Maome.
