Three nabbed with unlicensed firearm

Elsburg SAPS Task Team members stop and search suspicious-looking vehicle, three flee the scene.

While performing crime prevention duties in Wadeville members of the Elsburg SAPS Task Team recently spotted a suspicious-looking Nissan Sentra with the registration number KCD 229 GP.

The vehicle, containing six occupants, sounded the alarm bells for the task team as the Elsburg SAPS have been experiencing a high-volume of robberies allegedly executed by six or more men.

The suspects are reported to be heavily armed, and allegedly rob residences and businesses within the Elsburg policing area.

“The task team used tactical methods to stop and approach the vehicle.

“They then made their way towards the vehicle once it had stopped and searched all six suspects,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.

“However, while officers were searching the vehicle, three suspects managed to flee the scene.

“An unlicensed firearm was found underneath one of the seats.

“The remaining three suspects were arrested and detained in Elsburg SAPS custody.”

The suspects, aged between 26 and 39, will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
