School shoes and socks for needy learners

Eighty-eight learners from Hawk Academy arrived at school with worn-out school shoes and returned home with new, warm shoes and socks, all thanks to Kemtek Imaging Systems.

A number of Hawk Academy learners arrived at school last Tuesday morning with dated shoes and torn socks but their fate was due to change.

Eighty-eight learners stepped into new shoes and socks donated by Kemtek Imaging Systems.

Kemtek Imaging Systems enjoyed Mandela Day festivities at Hawk Academy this year.

However, although the company had a pleasant day, they left saddened by the number of children who were running around without proper school shoes or socks.

“I remember standing at the gate looking at a child who was wearing worn-out school shoes.

“I told myself I wanted to buy that child school shoes because it was cold and I could not imagine going through winter with those shoes on,” said Mashudu Serovha from Kemtek Imaging Systems.

Much-needed school shoes and socks were donated to Hawk Academy learners.

As the day progressed, Mashudu identified more learners who were in need of school shoes and socks, and an initiative to donate school shoes to the school began.

“My colleagues and I asked one of the teachers to provide us with the details of the children we had identified.

“By the end of the day we had created a list of 33 children who needed quality school shoes and socks,” he said.

Mashudu returned to work with this list and his initiative was driven to success by colleagues who pledged to donate shoes and socks to the learners.

“With the help of my colleagues, we were able to donate 88 pairs of schools shoes and 56 pairs of socks to the needy learners of Hawk Academy.

“As Kemtek employees we have pitched this initiative to our managers and we want to conduct it as an annual initiative, helping schools across Ekurhuleni,” said Mashudu.
