Four men arrested in Elsburg on hijacking charges

Thirty-five-year old man left stranded in Elsburg after men hijacked his vehicle on Voortrekker Street.

A 35-year-old man was allegedly hijacked while stationary on Voortrekker Street in Elsburg at around 8.35pm last Saturday.

The victim had been waiting for someone when he shockingly saw a man he knew knocking on his window while pointing a firearm at him.

The man demanded his car keys.

He alleged that he was instructed to hand over the car keys to the four suspects and he complied with their instruction.

The man was left standing on the street while they fled in his car towards Elspark.

Through further investigation, the office-bound members of the Elsburg police together with the Elsburg SAPS Task Team followed up on the information given by the victim and three suspects were arrested at different places near the victim’s home.

The Elsburg SAPS Task Team went in search of the suspect who allegedly pointed the firearm at the victim last Monday, as he was not found during the arrest of the three detainees.

He was later found and apprehended at his house.

The firearm in question was found in his possession.

“All four suspects, aged between 22 to 26, will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of hijacking,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.
