The metro has partnered with the Department of Home Affairs to urge residents to collect their identity documents from Home Affairs offices.
Lindiwe Khonjelwayo, the divisional head responsible for women, children and people with disabilities in the offices of the executive mayor said there were more than 2 600 uncollected IDs in the southern region of the metro alone.
“Many residents are unable to access social services, including registration on the metro’s indigent programme to get free services, due to lack of IDs.
“As we celebrate Women’s Month, we call on women to take the leadership role by collecting their IDs to access government services,” said Lindiwe.
Residents from Katlehong, Vosloorus, Thokoza and parts of Boksburg are encouraged to collect their IDs at the Germiston Home Affairs offices situated on President Street, on August 4.
Doors will open at 9am.
