Police warn community against scams

The Primrose police urge the community to report suspected scams.

The Primrose police are appealing to the community to be careful.

“We have received a number of complaints relating to scams and are, therefore, encouraging our community to be extra careful to avoid becoming victims,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

Two problem areas identified by police are:

• Applying for a loan online.

“We have fielded reports of online loan sites that request you to deposit an amount of money to get the loan – be suspicious of requests like this as it is most likely a scam.

“When you apply for a proper loan all charges are included in the package you agree on, there should be no extra costs one needs to pay,” said Maome.

• Online purchases.

“Do not pay the full amount of an item you purchased online, especially if you have not physically seen the product,” warned Maome.

“People are losing their hard earned cash unnecessarily.”

He encouraged the community to rather inspect the product first before making the purchase.
