Local companies gather to make a difference

Members of Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Aged enjoy spoils by various companies on Mandela Day.

The Nelson Mandela centenary celebrations went off without a hitch at Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Aged on Mandela Day.

Cherrywood Estate, a Primrose-based company, and with the help of Sandvik, donated food hampers and toiletries to the elderly.

Yammin Hammond Incorporated donated blankets. Robert Baigent Attorney & Conveyancer sponsored cakes, allowing the elderly to enjoy a lovely tea-party.

“The pensioner’s grant is not enough to sustain our senior citizens, so we decided to be a part of Rest-A-While’s winter drive and donated food and toiletries.

“As residents of this community, we felt the need to give back to our neighbours and lift their spirits,” said Jenny Clack from Cherrywood Estate.

Rest-A-While staff also welcomed a team of 12 social workers from Ekurhuleni’s Department of Social Development, who assisted them with cleaning throughout the day.

Running around cheerfully serving the elderly were Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan and her team.

“We have been on our feet for most of the day, but the help we’ve received today was spectacular,” said Trudy Carreira, manager of Rest-a- While.
