Residents association to focus on charity for 100 days

The community is urged to help local residents association assist the needy.

The LamDel Residents Association believes that Mandela Day should not be about only giving 67 minutes of your time one day a year, but rather about being part of a greater change in society.

To honour Mandela’s birthday and Mandela Day, the LamDel Residents Association is bringing the community 100 Days of Charity.

Over the next 100 days, which started on Mandela Day, the association will post information about charities in and around the LamDel area that need help all the time, not just one day a year.

“We have decided to spread the love around.

“We encourage people to get involved and be the change they want to see in the community around them.

“Let’s work together,” said Jakkie Janse van Vuuren, on behalf of the LamDel Residents Association.

If you know of a charity and want to add it to the list, send their details to the association via email to info@lamdel.org or a private message to Lornette Joseph, the LamDel chairperson on 071 230 8029.

The association is kickstarting the project off right at home with its own LamDel Residents Association Neighbours in Need project.

The LamDel Residents Association’s Neighbours in Need project brings relief to a number of residents in need, not only in the LamDel area but also in neighbouring suburbs.

There is an ongoing desperate need for food items and household goods for families in need.

“We have successfully helped many families with items of clothing, stationery, food, household items and more, but our stores are almost empty again and we appeal to residents who are cleaning out their homes to please consider donating their items to the Neighbours in Need project.

“In this cold weather blankets and tinned food are gold for people in need,” said Jakkie.

Items can be dropped off at Natka Hair and Beauty Salon, situated at 98 Webber Road, Lambton.

Or consider donating non-perishable food items, cleaning products, dry pet food and stationery and placing them in the bins provided at either the Lambton or Hazel Park Pick n Pays.

“A random gift of kindness and your generosity will go a long way in helping your fellow man.

“We already have a long list of charities that we will feature over the next 100 days and we encourage you to like our Facebook page www.facebook.com/lamdelra/ to follow the charities,” said Jakkie.
