Germiston Flying Squad recover three hijacked vehicles

Officers from the Germiston Flying Squad recovered three hijacked motor vehicles in Katlehong and Germiston.

Officers from the Germiston Flying Squad got more than they bargained for on July 11 when they recovered not one but three hijacked vehicles.

The vehicles were reportedly hijacked in both Katlehong and Germiston.

The first vehicle, a white Volkswagen Polo, was recovered by Const Lehlogonolo Mothapo with the assistance of the community and the vehicle’s tracker.

“The vehicle was recovered in Simon Bekker Street in Germiston.

“It was found abandoned,” said Const Ntombikayise Ngcobo, on behalf of the Germiston Flying Squad.

The second vehicle, a white bakkie, was recovered by Sgt Thamsanqa Motlaping and Const Levy Seemise while they were on route to the Germiston Police Station to report for duty.

Germiston Flying Squad officers Sgt Thamsanqa Motlaping and Const Levy Seemise discovered an abandoned bakkie in Katlehong.

“The vehicle was found deserted, with its lights on and no keys, along Sontonga Street in Katlehong.

“The bakkie had reportedly been hijacked in De Deur in Vereeniging,” Ngcobo explained.

The third vehicle, a Toyota, was found in an open veld in Phomola in Katlehong.

“Sgt Andile Bhenya was called to the scene by the community.

“When he arrived on the scene an unknown number of suspects fled the scene in a white Toyota Corolla leaving the vehicle behind,” said Ngcobo.

Cases were opened after the discovery of each vehicle and officers hope to make arrests soon.

“We request the help of the community and encourage them to call the police whenever there’s a suspicious vehicle or suspicious people around their area.

“Together we can fight crime,” Ngcobo said.
