Pink Day at Supa Quick in support of breast cancer awareness

The Pink Drive bus and nurses stopped at Supa Quick Fishers’ Hill to provide free breast examinations.

Supa Quick Fishers’ Hill showed their support for breast cancer awareness by providing free clinical breast examinations on their Pink Day on Friday.

This initiative driven by Bridgestone, #PinkValveCaps and Pink Drive encourages women to get frequent examinations because early detection is still the best way to beat cancer.

“This initiative is close to my heart because I lost my mother to breast cancer.

“Two weeks after it was detected we laid her to rest.

“She died from inflammatory breast cancer which is a rare cancer and unfortunately it was detected at stage four.

“It blocks certain vessels in the skin covering the breast and your breasts become red, swollen, heavy and tender,” said Sharon Hiscock, office manager at Supa Quick Fishers’ Hill.

Ready to welcome walk-ins at the Pink Day hosted by Supa Quick Fishers’ Hill, Pink Drive nurse Rendani Ramufi, Bridgestone retail marketing manager Desirée van Niekerk, Sharon Hiscock and Vanessa van Zyl.

Pink Drive also provided breast check guidelines to help women perform these examinations monthly:

Step One: Stand in front of a mirror, look carefully for changes to any part of your breast, like the shape, size or a discharge.

Step Two: Place your arm behind your head, use the opposite hand and gently move your fingertips in circular movements around your breast. Feel for lumps, thickening or changes. Be thorough and also check your armpits. Repeat on the other breast.

Remember the above can be done standing or lying down with one arm behind your head.

“Women should do these examinations monthly, seven days after their menstrual period.

“Early detection of breast cancer saves lives,” said Pink Drive nurse, Rendani Ramufi.

Pretty Tshuma was pleased after her breast examination at the Pink Day initiative hosted by Supa Quick Fishers’ Hill.
