Members encouraged to attend the Rest-a- While AGM

The Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Elderly will hold their AGM on July 25.

Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Elderly will host its AGM on July 25 and is encouraging all members and interested parties to attend.

The meeting will be held at the centre, located on the corner of Shamrock Road and Churchill Avenue, at 9.30am.

The centre has been serving the elderly in Germiston for more than 50 years after it was started by a group of retired women who began playing cards together.

They came together once a week and played cards over a cup of tea, and discussed the possibility of expanding the group to include more people.

The founders did some research and soon discovered that there was a great need for a group like this in the community of Germiston.

From these humble beginnings, the centre has grown and is now under the management of Trudy Carreira, who took the reins from Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan.

Trudy is appealing to the elderly of the community to come and join the centre as a member.

The centre hosts several fun activities each week, including skills development mornings, bingo and line dancing.

In addition, the centre hosts special celebrations for days such as Valentine’s Day, Mother’s and Father’s Day, as well as Easter and Christmas.

For more information on the centre, upcoming events and services call Trudy or Michelle Bezuidenhout on 011 828 3059.
