Girls treated on Youth Day

Germiston-based company Palesa Pads celebrated young women with a special Youth Day celebration at Germiston Lake.

Germiston Lake offered the perfect backdrop for the Palesa Pads’ Youth Day celebrations, last Saturday.

The team, led by Sherie de Wet, Cybil Smit and Omphemetse Plaatjies, invited girls from Epworth Children’s Village and the Germiston community at large to join in the celebrations.

The event was opened with a formal welcome from the team before they performed their famous Palesa Pads song and dance routine.

It also included motivational talks from Sherie, Omphemetse and Sandra Sibeko, a Mrs Tammy Taylor SA finalist, and a demonstration on how to use the reusable sanitary towels and what the company is all about.

Following the formalities the attending girls relaxed and enjoyed a braai, having the opportunity to interact with the team and the day’s main sponsor Fei Fei Qi, who sponsored 36 girls.

“I decided to sponsor the girls as part of my birthday project.

“I didn’t want anything for myself this year so asked my friends and family to rather make a contribution to my project rather than get me a gift,” she explained.

When asked why she had chosen this particular project, Fei Fei said, “Periods are natural and we cannot control or stop them, and yet they are still taboo.

“These pads will help these young girls to go to school and not have to worry about their period.

“The product also appealed to me as it is eco-friendly and will last for a number of years.”

The Palesa Pads team were pleased with how the event turned out and look forward to the next.
