Man nabbed for alleged statutory rape

Primrose police apprehended a 21-year-old man for statutory rape.

The Primrose police recently arrested a 21-year-old Makause informal settlement man on a charge of statutory rape.

The man was arrested after the mother of a 13-year-old girl opened a case against him at the Primrose Police Station.

“The woman alleged that she was at home when she noticed that her daughter was not home.

“At around 7pm she decided to go looking for her, but could not find her,” explained communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

The girl later returned home and her mother began peppering her with questions on her whereabouts.

“When she refused to answer any of her mother’s questions her mother took her to one of the community elders to determine if she was sexually active.

“It was there that she admitted to her mother that she had been at the accused’s house and that he had penetrated her,” said Maome.

The incident was reported to the police as the girl is a minor.

The accused was arrested and detained at the Primrose Police Station pending his appearance in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.

His case has since been postponed for a bail application.
