Glam 1920s high tea helps home raise funds

Community members dressed to the nines for the El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety high tea fund-raiser.

Community members enjoyed a fun-filled and festive atmosphere at El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety’s 1920s-themed high tea fund-raiser, last Saturday.

The event which was filled with laughter, was held at the NG Cachet Church in Primrose, and offered the home, which was officially opened on May 13, 2009, and is currently run by Allistair and Merencia Scholtz who took over the home’s management in September 2016, a way to raise much-needed funds.

The El-Shammah facility is not an orphanage, but rather a place of safety where abandoned babies can stay and be cared for and loved until the children’s court decides what their future holds.

The home strives to provide a safe and neat home environment – a place of love, care and protection.

The babies are lovingly cared for by full-time, qualified and trained caregivers who are on hand 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

“We are always looking for ways to raise the money we need so we can continue to help babies who have nothing,” said Allistair at the event.
