WARNING: Protestors take to Germiston streets again – avoid Lower Boksburg and Knights roads

Last Monday the GCN responded to protest action in the Germiston area, near the Goodhope Informal Settlement on Lower Boksburg and Knights roads. The residents from the Goodhope Informal Settlement had once again taken to the streets in a service delivery protest. Lower Boksburg Road and Knights Road were closed to traffic due to the protest.

Shots fired in Lambton as armed robbers target businesses

The evening air was rend with the sound of gunfire after a shootout ensued between suspects and security officers last Thursday. Capt André de Jager, the spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni West Cluster SAPS, told the GCN that at about 6.30pm it was alleged that more than 10 suspects stormed into Liquor City Lambton and Lambton Pick n Pay demanding money from the cash tills from both stores, as well as stock from the liquor store.

Warning: Damaging winds and chilly temperatures in store for Gauteng

Gauteng residents were encouraged to break out their woolly clothes and keep warm as a cold front was predicted to hit the province. The South African Weather Service warned Johannesburg residents to prepare for a significant drop in temperatures from Thursday evening.

No need to panic about Sassa cards says councillor, your existing card is still valid

Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan recently met with the area manager for Sassa to find out more about the process of getting new Sassa cards. Existing Sassa cards are still valid and can be used until the new cards have been rolled out.
