Children receive cosy blankets for winter

Laerskool Die President benefits from the community outreach blanket programme by Rest-A-While.

Laerskool Die President was recently dealt a crippling blow when thieves broke into the school and looted copper piping, taps and flushmasters, leaving damages amounting to R60 000.

However, they were up on their luck on Wednesday when the elderly women of Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Elderly popped in to donate 100 blankets to learners in need to help face the cold term upon us.

The donation was made possible through a community outreach blanket programme which was started over a year ago by women from Rest-A-While.

“The blankets were knitted over a period of a year with wool that was donated by the community,” said Michelle Bezuidenhout, a Rest-A-While representative.

“The time and love these women have dedicated to this project have been inspiring and we thank them for their contribution and thank the community for their ongoing support and donations.”

“We are thankful to Rest-A-While for their donation to our needy learners and we appreciate the hard work that went into the knitting of these blankets,” said Maria Gildenhuys, the school’s acting deputy principal.
