Shots fired in Lambton as armed robbers target businesses

No shoppers or staff members injured in brazen business robbery.

The evening air was rent with the sound of gunfire after a shootout ensued between suspects and security officers on Thursday.

André de Jager, the spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni West Cluster SAPS told the GCN that at about 6.30pm it was alleged that more than 10 suspects stormed into Liquor City Lambton and Lambton Pick n Pay demanding money from the cash tills from both stores, as well as stock from the liquor store.

Jacques van Wyk, the owner of Pick n Pay Lambton and Robin Clark, the manager of Liquor City Lambton confirmed that the suspects made off with undisclosed sums of money from both businesses and some stock from Liquor City.

“A local security company was informed and a shootout ensued between the suspects and security officers in the parking lot.

“One suspect was shot and wounded and he was arrested.

“Two unlicensed firearms were also recovered on the scene,” said de Jager.

The suspects used several vehicles to escape from the scene.
