Suspect fatally wounded after high-speed chase from Emalahleni to Germiston

EMPD officers recovered a stolen vehicle and fatally wounded a suspect in Germiston.

A suspect was fatally wounded, on Monday, by EMPD officers after a high-speed chase ended in the recovery of a stolen red Mitsubishi LDV.

At about 2am in Vosman, in Emalahleni (formerly Witbank), two men broke into a couple’s Mitsubishi LDV with the intention of stealing it.

Awoken by the noises in their yard, the owner went out to see what was happening and he was pistol-whipped by the two car thieves who then drove away in the vehicle.

Officers from the EMPD recovered a pistol and fatally wounded a suspect during the chase.

Despite the head injuries sustained, the victim alerted his neighbours who decided to give chase in an effort to recover the Mitsubishi.

During the high-speed chase, which ensued from in Emalahleni to Germiston, the victim and his neighbour kept in touch with the police informing them of their location.

“The suspects decided to abandon the vehicle on the N12 Westbound near the Kraft Road off-ramp in Germiston and tried to escape on foot,” said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD.
