Metro takes seven days to respond to power outage in Klippoortjie

Underground cable causes electricity glitch and leaves family of four without electricity for just over seven days.

Charlotte Klopper, a concerned neighbour, recently contacted the GCN about the poor service her neighbour, Heavystone Matsebane and his family, had been subjected to by the metro after reporting a power failure in their home.

According to Charlotte her neighbours had to use an extension cord that went from their home, over the fence into her house in order cook, boil water and manage without electricity for a number of days with no word from the metro.

“On Wednesday evening, March 21, we experienced a power outage that was only restored after seven days,” said Heaveystone.

After numerous calls to the municipality by Heavystone and Charlotte, an electrician was deployed to Klippoortjie and confirmed that the outage had been caused by a glitch in an underground cable.

“They dug up the paving right in front of my house and were able to fix the problem. We have not had any problems since then,” said Charlotte.

The GCN contacted the metro for comment, and Themba Gadebe, spokesperson of the metro said, “We contacted the customer, Mr Matsebane and he indicated that the supply was restored on March 29.

“We also checked with our electrician who attended to the call and it was closed properly.”
