EMPD employ high visibility to lesson road deaths

EMPD officers and other law enforcement members were out in full force over the Easter weekend.

The focus of the Easter weekend for the EMPD was the aim of drastically reducing the number of fatalities, as well as the number of vehicle accidents on the roads.

To achieve this they conducted a number of joint operations in conjunction with the Gauteng Traffic Police and the SAPS.

The law enforcers mounted both static and roving roadblocks, as well as sporadic roadside checks on Ekurhuleni’s highways, as well as other hotspot areas.

Due to these efforts, 62 arrests were made.

EMPD and Gauteng Traffic Police officers on the R21 highway conduct a high visibility patrol over the Easter weekend.

Over and above this, three suspects were taken in for possession of elephant tusks valued at R300 000 in Dawn Park, one person was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle in Tembisa and one for attempted hijacking, assault and robbery in Primrose.

Over 2 400 citations were issued for documentation, equipment, and moving violations which included the use of a cellphone without a hands-free kit.
