Easter treats for Avril Elizabeth Home residents

In the spirit of charity and communion Solidariteit Helpende Hand spent the morning of Good Friday with residents of Avril Elizabeth Home.

Solidariteit Helpende Hand, a non-profit organisation in Germiston, paid Avril Elizabeth Home a visit on Good Friday to spoil residents with yummy Easter treats.

The visit was aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty and increasing community involvement in providing assistance to toddlers, unemployed youth, senior citizens and the handicapped.

The staff and residents welcomed their visitors and kept the Easter bunny on his toes with some unconventional dance moves.

“It was awesome spending time with the residents and I urge the community to pay Avril residents a visit, spend time with them because when you see how they appreciate the little things in life, it will brighten up your day and make you appreciate life all over again,” said Yolanda Hall, chairperson of Solidariteit Helpende Hand.

Yolanda also spoke to the GCN about the importance of always being mindful and inclusive of people with disabilities.

“We are grateful for everyone’s attendance and it made our day a little bit more special, everyone looks forward to seeing them again soon,” said Portia Yeko, supervisor of Avril Elizabeth Home.
