Men allegedly make off with zinc sheets belonging to the metro

EMPD members apprehended three men for theft while on patrol in Primrose.

While on a routine patrol in du Preez Road in Primrose last Saturday, EMPD officers arrested three men aged between 22 and 50 for theft.

“The officers arrested the men after they reportedly witnessed them stealing corrugated zinc sheets belonging to the metro.

“The sheets were being used by the metro to build shacks for residents of the Delmore informal settlement who are being relocated,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

When the men saw the police they attempted to run away but were quickly apprehended.

They were taken to the Primrose Police Station, where they were charged and it was discovered they had stolen more than 50 sheets of zinc.

The suspects have appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where their case was postponed for plea and trial.

“The community should refrain from stealing government property, as they are delaying the work that needs to be done.

“The project will take a long time because of such disturbances,” said Maome.
