Taxi industry calls for “end of the road” for mayor, city manager

Members of the Ekurhuleni Taxi Industry (ETI) downed tools last Tuesday to converge on the Germiston Civic Centre in a peaceful march. Travelling slowly in convoy on the highways of Ekurhuleni, the taxis arrived with screeching tyres cheered on by the crowd already assembling.

Teachers assaulted and learning disrupted at Sunnyridge Primary School

The parent of a Sunnyridge Primary School learner recently shared their concern over an ongoing issue at the school which the principal, Marianna Odendaal, was allegedly “sweeping under the rug”. It is alleged that a 14-year-old learner with four assault cases against him was harassing learners and beating up teachers and promising that he would call his father to beat everyone up even more whenever they tried to discipline him.

Rumours that R24/R21 highway will be blocked by taxis are untrue, says Ekurhuleni Taxi Industry

Rumours that circulated on social media claiming that the Ekurhuleni Taxi Industry (ETI) would be blockading the R21/R24 highway and hijacking trucks to block the road during a planned protest last Tuesday were untrue.

City to come to a standstill as Ekurhuleni Taxi Industry to stage protest march to the mayor’s office in Germiston on Tuesday

The Ekurhuleni Taxi Industry (ETI) under the leadership of the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) and the National Taxi Alliance (NTA) staged a protest march to the offices of the executive mayor and the speaker of council of the metro in Germiston last Tuesday. The march started at the Germiston Taxi Rank at 10am and proceed to the Germiston Civic Centre.
