Rand Water and the Department of Water and Sanitation celebrate World Water Week

Rand Water joins the Department of Water and Sanitation in celebrating National Water Week.

To celebrate National Water Week (March 18 to 24), Rand Water and the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) created awareness of the considerable pressure water resources are under, not only in our country but around the world.

The world celebrated the theme “Nature for Water”, a theme that explored nature-based solutions to the challenges faced in the 21st century.

“The United Nations has identified nature-based solutions as having the potential to solve many of the earth’s water challenges.

“Environmental damage, together with climate change, is driving the water-related crisis globally.

“Floods, drought and water pollution are worsened by degraded vegetation, soil, rivers and lakes,” said Justice Mohale, media relations manager for Rand Water.

“South Africa will celebrate World Water Week under the theme ‘Nature for Water – Access to Safe Water by 2030, possible through nature’.”

The DWS will be spearheading several activities in the country and has called on communities to volunteer to address the challenges of climate change in an effort to protect the water ecosystem.
