The sound of chatting and laughing learners filled the Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Elderly’s courtyard last Friday.
The Grade 11 and matric learners from Primrose High School volunteered their time to help sort, clean and pack bottle tops and bread tags for Rest-a-While.

The mastermind behind the project was Matthew Valentine, who had originally offered the team’s services to cut the grass at the centre.
“When he approached us someone had just cut the grass for us,” explained manager Trudy Carreira.
“But I told them to come around because I had something else they could help us with.”
The bottle tops and bread tags will be given to the Sweethearts Foundation, an organisation which allows passionate South Africans an opportunity to uplift the lives of less fortunate people in our communities by providing wheelchairs to those who need them most through the Tops & Tags initiative.

The initiative sees the plastic bottle tops and bread tags recycled in exchange for wheelchairs.
The children were in high spirits and had fun while making a difference.
