Watch Out: Severe thunderstorms and hail could be expected today

The South African Weather Service warns of severe thunderstorms, heavy rains and hail predicted in parts of Gauteng today.

The weather still continues to be unpredictable, with dazzling sunshine turning to rain in just minutes.

This morning the South African Weather Service has warned residents to be on high alert as severe thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail are predicted from noon.

Severe thunderstorms with the possibility of large amounts of small hail are predicted for parts of Gauteng, with special focus on the West Rand and the city of Johannesburg  from noon to 10pm.
  •  Heavy Rain:
Heavy rain is expected in parts of Gauteng today, which could lead to localised flooding in some areas.

Motorists are reminded to take the necessary precautions when travelling.

They are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distance and headlights should be kept on at all times to increase visibility.

Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
