A guide on the ins-and-outs of becoming a parent

Life Roseacres Hospital hosted an informative and interactive Little Life Pregnancy and Baby Workshop.

Excitement, joy, stress and uncertainty are all words that can be used to describe the journey to parenthood.

With this in mind and to help ease some tension surrounding pregnancy, Life Roseacres Hospital hosted the Little Life Pregnancy and Baby Workshop, at the hospital, last Saturday.

The morning workshop aimed to celebrate everything about pregnancy, as well as to offer parents-to-be some helpful tips on what to expect during pregnancy and when baby arrives.

Mom-to-be Shanleigh Pegler was in high spirits at Life Roseacres Hospital’s Little Life Pregnancy and Baby Workshop, held at the
hospital, last Saturday.

Before a series of pregnancy-related talks, which aimed to offer the parents more insight into the different areas of pregnancy, hospital manager Henriette Pretorius welcomed guests and encouraged them to ask questions throughout the workshop.

Experts from various disciplines spoke to attendees about a number of important issues, including a talk from Sr Sonto Phakathi, a registered nurse, on the importance of breastfeeding, and a detailed explanation from Dr Adegboyega Oyebajo, an obstetrician and gynaecologist, on the risks of anaemia during pregnancy.

Moms-to-be were warned about the dangers of anaemia during pregnancy during obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Adegboyega Oyebajo’s presentation at the Little Life Pregnancy and Baby Workshop.

Dr Desmond Thwala, a paediatrician, gave some helpful tips on what to expect when your baby is born and danger signs to look out for, Chantel Victor, an audiologist, talked about the importance of a hearing test in newborn babies, and Isabel Coetzee discussed the advantages of 4D scanning.

Attendees then received some hands-on experience, with an interactive demonstration of baby bathing given by Sandra Dibakoana, an enrolled auxiliary nurse.

During the demonstration parents got some helpful tips, including how to test the water temperature and what sequence of steps to follow when bathing a baby, especially in cold weather.

The event ended with guests being treated to a selection of eats before taking a tour of the hospital’s maternity ward, including the neo-natal ICU.
