Dagga plants destroyed in Primrose

Large number of dagga plants found in Primrose’s informal settlements.

Members of the Primrose Crime Prevention Youth Desk worked tirelessly, together with officers from the Primrose Police Station, to destroy dagga plants found in the Makause, Marathon and Delport informal settlements.

The plants were destroyed during two separate operations held on February 17 and 24.

Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police, helps to load dagga plants into the back of a police van during an operation in the Makause informal settlement.

Members uprooted the plants before loading them onto a truck and into a police van, which transported them to the station to be destroyed.

“We still face challenges related to substance abuse within our precinct,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“One of these problems is that dagga is grown within our informal settlements, which is picked and sold by learners at local schools.

“As police, we are promoting a safer learning environment and cannot turn a blind eye when the learning of children is disturbed by dagga, which can be removed.”

The team appealed to the community, especially the residents of the informal settlements, not to turn a blind eye and remove dagga plants when they see them.

“It is not only the responsibility of the police to make the area safe.

“Remember it takes the nation to raise a child,” said Maome.

The youth desk members were thanked for their hard work and dedication and were commended for taking it upon themselves to get rid of the plants.
