Women join in joyful prayer

Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Elderly celebrates the 88th Women’s World Day of Prayer in Primrose.

Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Elderly hosted a graceful Women’s World Day of Prayer on Friday with the theme, ‘All God’s creation is very good’.

The Germiston Salvation Army, pianist Les Masterson and guest speaker, Reverend Dawn Brown of the Methodist Church in Witfield, joined residents of the centre and their families in an intimate prayer session to mark the 88th celebration of the day of prayer in South Africa.

Centre manager Trudy Carreira welcomed guests and thanked everyone for their attendance, after which Chicko Watson, the event’s coordinator, welcomed everyone by following ‘The Order of Worship’ in their prayer book.

Watson reminded everyone that their prayers and offerings were appreciated and were for a notable cause.

“The offering given today will be transported to the Women’s World Day of Prayer held in Kempton Park, and it will all be donated to different charities such as the Bible Society or the Salvation Army.

“Your money goes to worthwhile causes,” Watson said.

Last year the Women’s World Day of Prayer donated over R100 000 in total to charities in South Africa.

Reverend Brown then took to the podium, and sticking to the theme she spoke about the beauty of creation and preserving the earth for future generations.

Brown quoted scriptures from the Book of Genesis, and in closing she led everyone in the Lord’s Prayer.
