Update: Mission of hope idea receives a blow but is not defeated

A new building is needed by the Imbali Foundation to start their mission for the homeless and destitute of Germiston.

The Imbali Foundation’s dream of creating a mission for the homeless and destitute of Germiston has been dealt a blow.

Joseph Bachfischer, the founder of the foundation, recently lodged an official request with the Department of Public Works, for the use of the building, situated on the corner of Webber Road and Power Street in Germiston South.

He was told that he would have to wait between three to six months for a response from the department.

However, his wait was short-lived with the department responding within days saying that his application would not be considered.

He was informed that the property is under a rehabilitation programme and the department is looking at rehabilitating the property to be used by one of its client departments (possibly the Department of Labour or the Department of Home Affairs).

The department also mentioned that the residential section of the property will be utilised by the Department of Correctional Services as their lease on a private property is due to expire in the coming year, and renovations will start on the property soon.

He was also informed that should he identify any other state properties which are not part of the department’s programmes he could apply for those.

Although comment from the Department of Public Works has been requested, none has been forthcoming.

Joseph is appealing to community members and business people to contact him if they know of a building the Imbali Foundation could use to build their mission.

“I remain adamant that we will find a new building to focus on and our mission will come to fruition,” Joseph said.

If you know of a building contact Joseph on 083 338 3365.
