WARNING – A wet weekend ahead for Germiston

Make sure you are alert and aware at all times in rainy weather.

As clouds begin to gather once again over Germiston the South African Weather Service has asked residents to be prepared for rain.

In addition to the warning of heavy rains, over the central and southern parts of Gauteng, the service warned of severe thunderstorms and damaging winds.

The warnings in more detail:

  • Severe thunderstorms

Severe thunderstorms with the possibility of heavy downpours, localised flooding and hail are expected in parts of Gauteng, with special focus over Westonaria, Randfontein, southern Mogale and the southern City of Johannesburg.

These storms are expected to hit the province in the afternoon.

  • Damaging Winds

Strong damaging winds are expected over Gauteng, today, mainly during the afternoon.

  • Heavy rain

These heavy rains may lead to flash floods over parts of Gauteng.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the high to mid twenties for the weekend.

Residents are urged to take precautions when in the sun and are reminded to keep themselves and their pets hydrated and cool.

Motorists are reminded to take the necessary precautions when travelling in wet weather.

They are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distances and headlights should be kept on at all times to increase visibility.

Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
