Hijacked vehicle traced to Katlehong

A vehicle hijacked in January has been recovered by EMPD officers.

EMPD Public Order Policing Unit members recovered a Mercedes Benz ML Bluetec which was hijacked in mid-January in Vosloorus, on Monday.

The vehicle tracking company supplied information to the metro police who were able to trace the vehicle to Katlehong.

“Utilising the GPS coordinates, the metro police located the hijacked vehicle parked in a yard in the Credi section of Katlehong,” said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD.

The vehicle was found fitted with false registration plates.”

No arrests were made as the vehicle was found locked and empty and there were no occupants in the house.

The recovered vehicle was towed to the SAPS Van Ryn pound in Benoni for safe-keeping and further investigation.

“In-depth investigations are underway to apprehend the people responsible for the hijacking,” said Kgasago.
