During a recent triathlon athletes competed not only against each other but also against litter, grass and algae in the lake.

It was a crisp summer morning as athletes prepared to compete in the recent Trinity Sports triathlon held at Germiston Lake.

Many of the athletes took a walk to the water’s edge where they grimaced at the water they would be swimming in as it was filled with litter, lake grass and algae.
